Robert Goddard is known for successfully designing, building, and launching the first liquid-fueled rocket in the world.

The Father of Modem Rocketry and

Space Flight

The American physicist Robert H. Goddard is known as the father of modern rocketry and space flight. He formed the idea of interplanetary travel years before the first successful flight of a powered aircraft and later became the first man to successfully design, build, and then launch a liquid-fueled rocket. His brave and innovative testing with both liquid and solid fuels in rockets laid the groundwork for the development of orbital satellites, ballistic missiles, and the first piloted rocket to the Moon. Scientists still hope to send a piloted space flight to Mars, a lifelong dream of Goddard's. Robert Goddard patented numerous rocket and propulsion designs that remain in use today.
