Thomas S. Kuhn, The Structure of Scientific Revolutions, 2nd ed., University of Chicago Press, Chicago, 1970.

This book has had a great impact on the way in which people think about "scientific revolutions."

Cecil J. Schneer, The Evolution of Physical Science, Grove Press, New York, 1964 (a reprint of The Search for Order, Harper & Row, New York, 1960). An interesting historical perspective of the development of physical science. Especially good discussions of the early Greek contributions.
