Dermott

1986 ADi. Discovered 1986 Jan. 11 by E. Bowell at Anderson Mesa.

Named in honor of Stanley F. Dermott, planetary scientist at Cornell University, Ithaca, New York. Dermott's unusually broad range of contributions includes work on planetary origin, resonance effects on planetary satellites, rings, zodiacal dust bands, tidal interactions, and minor planets, for the last of which he is known for his study of the statistics of spin rates.
