1980 EC. Discovered 1980 Mar. 13 by E. Bowell at Anderson Mesa.

Named in honor of Gerald E. Kron, member of the staff of the Lick Observatory during 19381965 and director of the U.S. Naval Observatory's Flagstaff station during 1965-1973. A pioneer in the application of the photomultiplier tube to astronomical photometry, he has published a large quantity of high-precision photometric measurements of stars, clusters and galaxies. In addition, he developed an improved data-retrieval system for the Lallemand electronic camera, which he then applied to a study of globular clusters. (M 8800)
