Linnaeus

1990 SL9. Discovered 1990 Sept. 22 by E. W. Elst at La Silla.

Named in memory of the great Swedish botanist Carl von Linne (1707-1778). At an early age, Linnaeus developed a great love for flowers and herbs. This led him to develop the first major systematic system of nomenclature for the flora, and this became the internationally accepted standard. He organized the large-scale collection of botanical specimens in far-away countries and had a lively correspondence with his comtemporaries. (M 30801)
