McEwen

1988 QD1. Discovered 1988 Aug. 18 by C. S. Shoemaker and E. M. Shoemaker at Palomar.

Named in honor of Alfred McEwen for his significant contributions to planetary geology in the fields of photogeology, photometry, spectroscopy, photoclinom-etry, instrument calibration and mission planning. His research has involved diverse topics concerning the earth, the moon, Mars, minor planets, Galilean satellites and outer planets. He has been (or is) a member of science teams on Cassini, Galileo, Clementine and Mars Global Surveyor. (M 33789)
