Mishima

1991 CF. Discovered 1991 Feb. 8 by M. Akiyama and T. Furuta at Mishima.

Named for the first discoverer's second home, a city some 100 km west of Tokyo and famous for the great amount of clear water from Mt. Fuji {see planet (1584)}, 30 km to the northwest. The city's old shrine, Mishima Taisya, is famous as the point where Yoritomo Minamoto {see planet (3902)}, founder of the Kamakura shogunate, began his battle to unify the nation. (M 21611)
