Peyo

1935 QF. Discovered 1935 Aug. 31 by K. Reinmuth at Heidelberg.

Named in memory of Pierre Culliford (1928-1992), better known under his pseudonym Peyo. He was known worldwide for his comic strips, where he created the blue dwarfs known as the Smurfs. Together with Georges Remi (Herge) {see planet (1652)}, the father of Tintin, Peyo raised the drawing of comic strips to a 'Belgian' work of art. (M 21954)
