1993 XY. Discovered 1993 Dec. 12 at the Farra d'Isonzo Observatory at Farra d'Isonzo.

Named in honor of the Italian physicist Carlo Rubbia (1934- ), winner of the 1984 Nobel Prize in physics for his decisive contribution to the large project that led to the discovery of the field particles W and Z, communicators of weak interaction. His discovery has supplied a fundamental check of the unified theory of electro-weak interactions. He is the fourth Italian Nobel laureate in physics. (M 33790)
