Stattmayer

1978 PC. Discovered 1978 Aug. 10 by H.-E. Schuster at La Silla.

Named in honor of Peter Stattmayer {1945- }, director of the Munich Public Observatory, on the occasion of his 50th birthday, 1995 Nov. 3. He has been a very active amateur astronomer all his lifetime and is well known for his great ability to communicate with the public. His excellent astrophotographic observations, mostly made from his well-equipped private observatory in Herrsching at the Ammersee, are unsurpassed among amateurs in Germany and beyond. (M 25976)
