Stumpff

A907 PB. Discovered 1907 Aug. 8 by A. Kopff at Heidelberg.

Named in memory of Karl Stumpff (1895-1970), eminent celestial mechanist and professor of astronomy at Berlin, Graz and Gottingen. His method of treatment of periodic processes was a forerunner of the Fast Fourier Analysis. The collected experience of decades of research went into his main scientific heritage, the three-volume Himmelsmechanik. (M 22497)
