Named for Carl Maria von Weber (1786-1826), German composer. Although Weber did not invent German Romantic opera, he was strongly influential in setting its course, both as a composer and conductor. Similarly, he was a primary builder of the nineteenth-century Romantic movement in music. His operas and overtures are often performed, but his symphonies, most of his concerti and his piano works have fallen into unjust neglect. (M 16593)
