Directions:

Put the lid on the box. Turn on the flashlight. Number each side of the box I, 2. 3, 4. Look through the viewing holes. Write which phase of the Moon you see from each position on the card. Think of yourself as an observer on Earth, the flashlight as the Sun, and the ball as the Moon. Tell what conditions would actually be when you see each phase.

Have an adult help you cut an opening at one end of a shoe box large enough for a flashlight to fit through from the inside of the box. Cut a I inch viewing hole on all four sides of the box. Thread a needle with heavy thread and tie a knot. Put the needle through the top of the ping-pong ball, through its opposite side and through the bottom of the box lid up through the top. Cut the thread off close to the needle. Put a fastener into the lid near where the needle entered. Tie the thread around the fastener so that the ball hangs into the box about an inch and a half.
