Can You Remember?

Would you like to be able to recite all of the planets in order from the Sun? It is easier than you think! Try using the pneumonic device below. A pneumonic device is a learning tool that can help you memorize important information. To create a pneumonic device, you take the first letter of each word in the series you are trying to memorize and create a funny phrase or saying with the letters. For Instance, a common pneumonic device used to memorize the planets is:

There are two kinds of planets. Mercury, Venus. Earth, and Mars are in the inner solar system and are "terrestrial" planets, meaning they are rocky and dense. In the outer solar system, the planets Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune are made mostly of liquids and gases. These gaseous planets also have rings around them. Saturn has the largest, brightest rings around it. The rings are not solid. They are made up of chunks of rock and frozen materials.

Pluto, the outermost planet, is made mostly of ice and frozen gases and is the smallest of the planets. Even though it is called the outermost • satum and Its rings planet, it doesn't spend all of its time being the farthest planet from the Sun. Planets orbit in elliptical, round or oval, paths, and Pluto orbits for part of the time inside Neptune's orbit.

The chart below shows that each planet has its own personality.
