Ray Properties

So far, the identification of black holes in XBs relied on the criterion of Mx > 3 M0. It is still considered to be the most reliable black hole discriminator. On the other hand, continued efforts have been made to find unique signatures of black-hole binaries in the observed properties, in particular the X-ray properties. At present, there are enough black-hole XBs established from the mass function (Table 16.1) to investigate their properties and to compare with those of neutron-star XBs, as discussed in the following sections.
