Inside An Atom

An atom is made up of a nucleus of protons and neutrons (collectively termed nucleons), orbited by shells of electrons. Each proton or neutron is itself made up of three even tinier particles, called quarks. Every chemical element has a different number of protons and neutrons in the nucleus of its atoms.
