Norma is an unremarkable southern constellation lying in the Milky Way between Lupus and Scorpius. It was introduced in the 1750s by the Frenchman Nicolas Louis de Lacaille, although at first it was known as Norma et Regula, the Set Square and Rule. The stars that Lacaille originally designated Alpha (a) and Beta (b) have since been incorporated into neighboring Scorpius.
