The computer I have used for everything described here is equipped with an Intel Celeron 2.93-GHz processor, 512-MB RAM and an 80-GB hard drive. Slower PCs with less memory may have difficulty with some of the recommended software. The computer must have a sufficient number of USB ports to handle a scanner and digital camera downloads. Ports for various types of digital camera memory cards are more convenient than USB downloading. A scanner for scanning 35-mm slides and negatives is also essential.

Although we usually tend to think of the digital camera as the best thing since sliced bread, there are both pros and cons with its use. Nothing is available on the market that does not have both a good and a bad side, but the key is to weigh the good against the bad in order to come up with the best of both worlds.
