SIMULTANEOUS CONTRASTS: SUN AND MOON In this work the French cubist painter Robert Delaunay (1885-1941) has portrayed the Sun with no reference to the earthly world. The Sun is seen as a source of pure light and color that can be appreciated in its own right without reference to the sunlight that illuminates terrestrial objects.
