Lunar Orbiter Medium Resolution Frames

The approximate coverage of the medium-resolution photos targeted for the Western Far Side Region is shown in Figure 9.3. Lunar Orbiter 5 took these pictures in a systematic series, with successive medium-resolution frames overlapping. The pictures were taken at high altitude and obliquely because the mission profile was compromised between completion of the mediumresolution coverage of the far side and the high-resolution coverage of the candidate landing sites for the later Apollo landings that were to explore sites of special scientific interest. Photos L05-085M and -103M have been combined in a mosaic, as have L05-158M and -163M.

The medium-resolution photos are shown starting on page 96. All of the medium-resolution photos are shown before the highresolution frames, to avoid breaking the continuity of contiguous coverage of the medium-resolution photos.
