Earl of Rosse
Born: 1800, York, England Died: 1867, Dublin
Rosse, like Lassell, was principally a maker of telescopes and his contributions were mainly concerned with technological advance. He invented the lightweight mirror blank and successfully applied the "whiffle-tree" support principle of Thomas Grubb to his biggest telescope.
