Planning to Report our Estimates

If you desire to report your variable-star estimates, use the proper format for each reporting agency. The AAVSO, VSNET and BAAVSS all have different reporting formats. Check their Web site for the preferred format and use it. Be very careful and report which charts you are using so that the proper comparison stars are recorded. After using several charts, you'll probably notice that a star used as a comparison star may have different magnitude values on different charts. This usually happens when you look at charts from two different organizations such as AAVSO and VSNET. Because this happens, it's important to always use the same chart, use the magnitude shown on the chart, and report the chart used. If everyone uses the same numbers, the data will be consistent.
